A garniture of three Staffordshire figures of Irish political interest, circa 1882 Comprising a pair of figures of William Ewart Gladstone and Charles Stewart Parnell, Gladstone wearing a coat and waistcoat with a Union Flag behind him, leaning on a pile of logs and an axe in his right hand, titled 'W. E. GLADSTONE' to the base, Parnell wearing classical Greek costume, holding a shillelagh in his left hand and a green standard in his right bearing the Union Flag and Irish harp, titled 'C. S. PARNELL' to the base, the centrepiece with two seated women shaking hands emblematic of Ireland and Britannia, an angel standing behind them holding a banner inscribed 'PEACE ON EARTH' and 'GOOD WILL TOWARDS MEN' in gold, 32.5cm-34cm high (3) Footnotes: These figures were issued to commemorate the signing of the Kilmainham Peace Treaty between England and Ireland in 1882.
