TWO MOTHER-OF-PEARL-INLAID BLACK LACQUER BOXES AND COVERS 17th century Comprising: a octafoil lacquered box and cover inlaid with pieces of mother-of-pearl, the lid decorated with a qilin amid trees and rocks, the sides of the box inlaid with floral patterns, Japanese box, 15cm (5 7/8in) long; and a hexagonal lacquered box and cover, the centre of the cover inlaid with a panel enclosing a gentleman seated beside a river and attended by a boy in a mountainous landscape, the sides of the cover adorned with floral sprays and geometric pattern, the box similarly decorated 8.2cm (3 1/4in) high.
