Leon Bakst (Russian, 1866-1924) Costume design for a Royal Guard, Moor for the Sleeping Princess, A Ballet in Five Acts after Perrault. Music by Tchaikovsky signed in Latin (lower right) watercolour, pencil, gouache, heightened with silver and gold on paper 30 x 19.5cm (11 13/16 x 7 11/16in). 1922 Footnotes: Provenance Collection of Michel Michelet (July 14, 1894 – December 28, 1995), famous Ukrainian-American composer and conductor. Acquired from the above by the present owner. Mikhail Levin, who became known as Michelet, was born in Kiev. He moved to France where he joined the Russian artistic community and became friends with the famous artist Bakst. With the dawn of the sound era in cinema during the 1930s, Michelet established himself as a notable presence in the film industry. As the shadows of World War II began to loom over Europe, he made the pivotal decision to relocate to Hollywood, where he continued to flourish professionally, contributing his talents to both film productions and musical performances. His artistic legacy reached a particularly memorable pinnacle when he received the distinguished honor of performing at the White House during the Reagan administration. Buyers' Premium and Charges


For all Sales categories, buyer's premium excluding Cars, Motorbikes, Wine, Whisky and Coin & Medal sales, will be as follows:

Buyer's Premium Rates
28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price;
27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.

A 3rd party bidding platform fee of 4% of the Hammer Price for Buyers using the following bidding platforms will be added to the invoices of successful Buyers for auctions starting on or after 6th July 2024 – Invaluable; Live Auctioneers; The Saleroom; Lot-tissimo.

VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
