He is the only American artist to create designs for Hermès. His work reflects his Texas heritage and his interests in mythology, religion, and history. Oliver's Kachina design is inspired by a Native American tribe called the Pueblo who are indigenous to the geographic area that is now known as the state of Texas. According to Pueblo Native American mythology, a Kachina is a deified ancestral spirit, or a person embodying such a spirit in ceremonial dances.
