Antarctic 1910-1913, 2 vol., FIRST EDITION, half-titles, frontispieces, plates, 10 folding panoramas, 5 maps (4 folding), occasional spotting (mostly only to half-titles), publisher's variant of blue cloth with gilt lettering, spines darkened, spine of volume 1 reinforced [Roscoe 71.A2], 8vo, Constable & Co., [1922] Footnotes: First edition of a classic work of literature from the 'Heroic Age' of Antarctic exploration, recounting Cherry-Garrard's Winter Journey, as part of the Terra Nova expedition 'to obtain specimen eggs from the emperor penguin rookery at Cape Crozier.... a hazardous round trip of 120 miles in darkness, at temperatures in excess of -70 °F, an exploit which is still without parallel in the annals of polar exploration... later Scott described their journey as 'the hardest that has ever been made'' (ODNB). This copy is in the variant blue cloth binding, which Roscoe says is 'significantly scarcer' than the usual linen-backed boards. Buyers' Premium and Charges
For all Sales categories, buyer's premium excluding Cars, Motorbikes, Wine, Whisky and Coin & Medal sales, will be as follows:
Buyer's Premium Rates
28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price;
27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.
A 3rd party bidding platform fee of 4% of the Hammer Price for Buyers using the following bidding platforms will be added to the invoices of successful Buyers for auctions starting on or after 6th July 2024 – Invaluable; Live Auctioneers; The Saleroom; Lot-tissimo.
VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
