A STAINLESS STEEL MANUAL WIND WRISTWATCH Model: COSD Reference: 2340 (Military Number) Date: c. 1940s Movement: 16-jewel manual wind, No. 10'091'601 Dial: Black Case: Round, screw down case back, No. 18 Strap/Bracelet: Black leather NATO Buckle/Clasp: Stainless steel buckle Signed: Case and movement Size: 28mm Accompaniments: None Footnotes: Military watches have come in all variations of shape, size and complications, and the present lot is an example of a supremely utilitarian military watch. Along with Longines, Omega contributed to the creation of these dive watches which have gained the nicknames of the COSD watch (for the Combined Operations Store Depot moniker) as well as the 'Tuna Can' for its obvious similarity to the shape and dimensions of the object. The present lot has a sterile black dial which responds strongly to the geiger due to its heavy radium use, as well as a movement secured into place by only two small springs attached directly to the movement. It is extremely rare to find an example of the Tuna Can, especially from Omega.
