A FINE 18K GOLD AUTOMATIC WRISTWATCH Reference: 2526 Date: Purchased 14th March, 1955 Movement: 18-jewel automatic, No. 760'880 Dial: Egg-shell enamel Case: Round, screw down case back, No. 683'764 Strap/Bracelet: Endangered species Buckle/Clasp: 18k gold buckle Signed: Case, dial, movement and buckle Size: 35mm Accompaniments: Maker's Extract from the Archive Footnotes: The Reference 2526 was launched by Patek Philippe in 1953 and was the company's first serialized self-winding wristwatch. It utilized the new caliber 12'''- 600 AT movement, with the serial numbers starting with 760,000. Research shows that approximately 580 examples were produced, 20 examples in platinum, 30 examples in white gold, 50 examples in pink gold and 480 examples in yellow gold. The Reference 2526 later evolved into the Reference 3428, which used the second-generation self-winding movement, caliber 27-460. The present lot is a well preserved example of the first generation model, domed screw back and egg-shell enamel dial. The enamel is flared around the holes, which hold the applied indexes, the central hands and the subsidiary second's hand. The model is illustrated in Patek Philippe Wristwatches by Martin Huber & Alan Banbery, first edition, pp.168 & 169. **Potential bidders who intend to export this lot are advised that certain permits may be required for import or export of the endangered species strap (i.e. alligator and crocodile) to the state of California and any non-US countries due to CITES regulations.
