A HEAVY AND RARE SOLAR-POWERED GILT BRASS CLOCK IN EMPIRE STYLE Reference: 810 Date: c. 1968 Movement: 28-jewel photo electric quartz, solar panel, motor no. 2232, No. 873'903 Dial: White Case: Portico style case with four reeded Corinthian columns, solar panel top, raised on four stepped feet Signed: Dial and movement Size: approx. 233mm (wide) x 280 mm (high) Accompaniments: Maker's presentation box Footnotes: Patek Philippe introduced a groundbreaking concept by developing a solar-powered mechanism capable of storing energy in an electronic accumulator. Their innovative use of photoelectric cells merged the finest aspects of traditional watchmaking with modern technology, integrating it into the mechanical 17'' movement. In 1954, this invention earned Patek Philippe the Patent No. 298564 for their development and use of photoelectric energy in this capacity. The novelty and significance of this creation were highlighted when it was showcased at the 1955 World Symposium and later displayed at the Museum of Science in Boston.
