ROOSEVELT United States of America, c. 1940, carved wooden bust figure with a posable head depicting U.S. President Roosevelt (1882-1945), arms and waist truncated by the self-forming circular base inscribed, 'I DID MY BEST / MY HAND WAS TIED,' referring to the Roosevelt administration's failure to admit Jewish European refugees during World War Two, 7cm wide, 7cm deep, 17cm high (3 1/2in wide, 3 5/8in deep, 7in high).
