SOMA OR HAGI WARE 'WINTER' BOWL Japan, Edo period, 19th century Well-shaped with undulating exterior, stamped double gourd mark near foot. 3in (7.6cm) high Footnotes: Provenance: Collection of Col. Dean S. Hartley, Jr., USMC (1920-2010), by descent to the present owner. Col. Hartley was a scholar who published several articles on Asian art and, with his wife, Roth Hartley, collected Asian works of art from the mid-1950s until 2001. It bears a Hartley's inventory number near foot. OVERALL CONDITION: Displays a long, repaired hairline crack running over mouth rim and two spots of repairs in red lacquer and gold to mouth rim.
