Barbour Re-loved x Engineered Garments Re-loved Quilted Liddesdale Jacket, Autumn 2024 Renowned for their design, craftsmanship, functionality and fun, Engineered Garments was founded by Japanese designer Daiki Suzuki in New York in 1999. Their take on the bespoke Liddesdale is multi-faceted with plenty of zip and stud detail options. In a clever garment construction with meticulous attention to detail, the Engineered Garments Liddesdale quilt can easily be worn across different looks to express the wearer's personal style. The back and arm vents are bespoke and add a unique interpretation and elevation to the simplicity of the Liddesdale quilt. An added touch is the inner day to night brand label reinforcing the versatility of the jacket to be styled and worn differently depending on the time of day. 'My journey with Barbour has been a long-standing one, spanning from my teenage years, through my twenties when I ventured into the world of fashion, and up to my current sixties. The first piece I ever purchased was the International Jacket in my mid-twenties. Since then, I've worn the basic Bedale, Beaufort, and Liddesdale jackets. I recall the excitement and joy I felt when I had the opportunity to collaborate multiple times starting from the Autumn Winter 2019 season. As a designer for Engineered Garments, I am known for drawing inspiration from vintage workwear, uniforms and the Ivy League style of America. However, I am also deeply influenced by the designer brands of the 1980s from Japan, Paris, London, and New York. I decided to take a slightly experimental approach, heavily incorporating zippers, aiming to transform the basic design into something entirely different. As a result, the design that emerged truly resembles a transformer; the original basic design remains intact but through the wearer's ideas and ingenuity, various different looks can be achieved. Depending on the wearer's mood, the jacket can display different personalities, akin to day and night. This unconventional design demands creativity from the wearer, making it an intriguing and demanding design unlike any other.' Daiki Suzuki, Engineered Garments Size Medium Footnotes: Barbour Celebrates An Icon: 30 years of the Liddesdale Jacket ● Autumn Winter 24 marks 30 years of Barbour's iconic Liddesdale Jacket. Designed and launched by Dame Margaret Barbour in 1994, it's become a bestselling icon in countryside and city alike – worn by everyone from royalty to rock stars, shepherds to bankers. ● 12 vintage quilted jackets have been lovingly re-designed and re-purposed by friends of the brand. These very special quilts are being auctioned off for charity, with all profits going to The Royal Countryside Fund. 'In 1994, there had already been a small number of quilts in the range. But it was the Liddesdale, with its distinctive lightweight diamond outer, capacious pockets and cord collar that really caught the attention of our customers. The Liddesdale is such a practical jacket – ideal for spring and autumn when the weather begins to change. I originally brought the Liddesdale in as a country jacket, but I knew very quickly it would also become popular in the city because of its versatility – it can be worn anywhere. I am very proud it continues to be a bestseller 30 years on.' – Dame Margaret Barbour, Chairman. Named after the Liddesdale Valley in the Scottish borders where Barbour holds its roots, the jacket is synonymous with effortless British style and trusted, quality craftsmanship. Originally created with horse riding in mind, its lightweight versatility is worn and loved by everyone from all walks of life – working just as well over a suit as it does over wellington boots.
