Barbour Re-loved x Paul Smith Re-loved Quilted Liddesdale Jacket, Autumn 2024 Paul Smith's inspiration has come from the 1990s in a nostalgic nod back to the very first introduction of the Liddesdale in 1994. On the front of the quilt is Paul Smith's iconic collegiate pattern with each of the years recorded from 1994 – 2024 representing 30 years of this iconic quilt. The stitching came from a fabric 'letter' which Paul received from a friend providing the inspiration for the jacket to be embroidered for each year it has graduated, like a wearable yearbook. The inner lining is a reproduction of a striking archive Paul Smith 'Button Print' which dates back to Autumn Winter 93-94. Paul Smith buttons replace Barbour studs in this outstanding homage to the Barbour Liddesdale. 'Being able to create a unique piece for the 30th anniversary of Barbour's legendary Liddesdale Jacket was a fun project to be part of. It's wonderful being able to celebrate another icon of British design!' - Sir Paul Smith Size Medium Footnotes: Barbour Celebrates An Icon: 30 years of the Liddesdale Jacket ● Autumn Winter 24 marks 30 years of Barbour's iconic Liddesdale Jacket. Designed and launched by Dame Margaret Barbour in 1994, it's become a bestselling icon in countryside and city alike – worn by everyone from royalty to rock stars, shepherds to bankers. ● 12 vintage quilted jackets have been lovingly re-designed and re-purposed by friends of the brand. These very special quilts are being auctioned off for charity, with all profits going to The Royal Countryside Fund. 'In 1994, there had already been a small number of quilts in the range. But it was the Liddesdale, with its distinctive lightweight diamond outer, capacious pockets and cord collar that really caught the attention of our customers. The Liddesdale is such a practical jacket – ideal for spring and autumn when the weather begins to change. I originally brought the Liddesdale in as a country jacket, but I knew very quickly it would also become popular in the city because of its versatility – it can be worn anywhere. I am very proud it continues to be a bestseller 30 years on.' – Dame Margaret Barbour, Chairman. Named after the Liddesdale Valley in the Scottish borders where Barbour holds its roots, the jacket is synonymous with effortless British style and trusted, quality craftsmanship. Originally created with horse riding in mind, its lightweight versatility is worn and loved by everyone from all walks of life – working just as well over a suit as it does over wellington boots.
