A CASED MERWIN & BRAY PLANT'S MANUFACTURING FRONT LOADING REVOLVER, mid-1860s. Serial number 5935, .42 caliber octagonal barrel with top rib, the left side with trace of Merwin & Bray mark, the top marked 'PLANT'S MFG CO. NEW HAVEN. CT.,' silvered brass frame with case ejector on the right side, cylinder for cup primed cartridges marked 'PATENTED JULY 12. 1859 & JULY 21. 1863' and with hard wood grips; the hard wood case opening to a compartmented and red velvet lined interior with a spare percussion cylinder marked 'PLANT'S MFG CO. NEW HAVEN. CT.,' a steel cleaning rod, copper powder flask, steel ball/bullet mold, tin of J. Goldmark's percussion caps and a partial box of No. 3 Patent Waterproof Metallic Cartridges. Barrel lg. 6, overall lg. 10 3/4 in. Condition: Barrel and cylinder toned to brown with traces of bluing in the recessed areas, frame retains approx. 95% silvering, right grip has a loss at the lower front edge, cylinder rod retaining spring is broken; case has staining and wear to the interior, accessories are good.
