A PRESENTATION COLT MODEL 1849 POCKET REVOLVER, 1853. Serial number 72960, .31 caliber octagonal barrel with two-line address reading 'ADDRESS SAML COLT/NEW YORK CITY,' the left side of the frame marked 'COLTS/PATENT,' the cylinder with stagecoach scene, patent and serial number markings, brass trigger guard and grip frame, walnut grip with a silver plate attached to the left side reading 'Presented to/Henry White/Lieutenant of the Spring Garden Division/Marshall's Police,/by the officers under/his command./March 1st 1854.' and with a carved star on the right side, all serial numbers match except for the wedge. Barrel lg. 5, overall lg. 10 in. Condition: Steel toned to brown with scattered light pitting, cylinder scene is mostly obliterated and patent marking is very weak, trace of silvering on the trigger guard, grip is generally good, action functions properly. Footnotes: Provenance Martin Lane, 1994. Note Spring Garden is a neighborhood in Philadelphia. Lot includes a packet of information regarding Henry White and a letter from R.L.
