LISA SOTILIS: A LARGE GOLD NECKLACE The sculptural high karat gold embossed and repoussé pendant with glass and hardstone beads, joined to an 18k gold collar, weight 71.9 dwt, signed Sotilis, pendant length 6 3/4, collar length 16 in. Footnotes: Lisa Sotilis is a Greek post-war and contemporary artist and cultural figure, who produced works of painting, sculpture, furniture design, and jewelry. At 18, Sotilis had her international debut where she was recognized as a young prodigy at the Berlin Museum. Subsequently, she was offered a contract by Alexander Iolas, the New York gallerist who deeply impacted the evolution of modern art, credited with discovering Andy Warhol. Iolas placed Sotilis among the great post-war and contemporary artists and showed her work at all his top galleries throughout the world. Sotilis was Giorgio de Chirico's assistant, and his only assistant for his larger sculpture projects. Salvador Dali and Rene Magritte were among her first admirers and collectors. In the 1970's, her house in Via Dante, Milan was known as a cultural space where Andy Warhol and Rudolph Nureyev were frequent visitors. Among her many accolades, Sotilis also had an exclusive contract with Cartier where she designed and produced watch bezels. Since then, her works have been included in at least 50 individual and collective art shows and prominent galleries and museums.
