A pair of late 16th/early 17th century embroidered cuffs and a single velvet panel probably 18th century Both probably Northern Italian or Genoese, The cuffs designed with spiralling tendrils, pineapples, antelope, supported on later rectangular blue panel, the 'Leoni soprarizzo' velvet example designed with 12th-14th century design including the two Byzantine lions protecting the tree of life, the cuffs 33cm wide, 25cm wide approximately on panel (71.5cm x 30cm wide) the velvet panel 58cm x 58cm (2) Footnotes: The Leoni design can be traced back to the 14th century -the earliest examples of which can be found in the Bevilacqua workshops of Venice. Soprarizzo velvet, sometimes called 'soprariccio' velvet combines cut and curly velvet -giving a more three dimensional feel.
