An 80-Bore Flintlock Three-Barrelled Box-Lock Tap-Action Pistol With Spring Bayonet By Bass, London, Late 18th Century With turn-off brass barrels numbered '4', '5' and '6' respectively at the breeches, the lower barrel with folding bayonet, part octagonal border engraved breeches numbered to correspond, brass action signed within an oval against a martial trophy over both sides, engraved thumbpiece safety-catch also locking the steel, the tap decorated with a flower-head, sliding trigger-guard engraved with foliage on the bow and also forming the bayonet-catch, and figured flat-sided butt, London proof marks and fleur-de-lys mark 7.2 cm. barrels Footnotes: John Bass, in partnership with his uncle, John Fox Twigg, as Twigg & Bass between 1788 and 1790, is recorded working on his own at 19 Green Park Row, Piccadilly, London between 1793 and the year of his death in 1794 This lot is subject to the following lot symbols: * * VAT on imported items at a preferential rate of 5% on Hammer Price and the prevailing rate on Buyer's Premium.
