A Cased Pair Of 32-Bore Percussion Duelling Pistols Decorated With Duellists On The Trigger-Guards By Westley Richards, 170 New Bond St., London, No. 513, Mid-19th Century With browned twist octagonal sighted barrels (some loss of finish) each signed in full in capitals along the top flat, border engraved case-hardened patent breeches each decorated with a scallop shell between platinum lines, pierced platinum plugs, foliate scroll engraved case-hardened tangs each with back-sight, border engraved case-hardened detented flat locks each signed in capitals and decorated with foliate scrollwork, dolphin hammers en suite and with safety-catch behind, figured half-stocks (one with small chip above the front of the lock) each with dark horn fore-end cap and chequered rounded butt, steel mounts comprising case-hardened ovoidal butt-caps each decorated with scrolling foliage on the flat, blued trigger-guards each serial numbered on the tang and decorated with a duellist in a landscape on the border engraved bow, trigger-plates each with engraved pineapple finial, vacant silver escutcheons and barrel-bolt escutcheons, no provision for ramrods, and retaining some original finish: in original lined and fitted mahogany case with a few accessories including Dixon & Sons brass-mounted powder-flask with reeded bag-shaped body, and retaining much of its original finish (cut-off spring missing), the interior of the lid with maker's trade label, the exterior with circular vacant brass escutcheon centred on a circular flush-fitting brass carrying handle, Birmingham proof marks and barrelsmith's marks 23.9 cm. barrels Footnotes: William Westley Richards, whose London agent was William Bishop ('The Far-famed Bishop of Bond Street'), had a retail shop at 170 New Bond Street between 1826 and 1872 This lot is subject to the following lot symbols: * * VAT on imported items at a preferential rate of 5% on Hammer Price and the prevailing rate on Buyer's Premium.
