An Extremely Rare Pair Of 32-Bore Flintlock Rifled Turn-Off Pistols By Richard Griffith Of London, Circa 1675 With turn-off pistols each with muzzle-ring, rifled with eight grooves and fitted with hinged retaining link to a ring around the breech, the latter engraved with foliage, border engraved octagonal breeches each becoming polygonal and decorated with symmetrical foliage, plain tangs, border engraved rounded locks (mainsprings replaced) each signed in capitals on a scroll and decorated with scrolling strawberry foliage terminating in a monster-head on the tail, foliate engraved rounded cocks (repaired or replaced, steels refaced), figured stocks (old repairs) each with raised apron around the barrel tang and inlaid with symmetrical silver wire scrollwork along the back of the butt (some replacements), silver mounts comprising side-plates (one expertly replaced) each pierced and engraved with foliage inhabited by a demi-hound and hound's head, escutcheons each engraved with owner's crest centred on pierced and engraved foliage, border engraved spurred pommels (the spurs on one pistol repaired) each pierced and engraved with flowering foliage against a brass cap and inhabited by demi-hounds and grotesque masks, each retaining screw centred on a flower-head, iron trigger-guards each with foliate finial fore and aft, and engraved with foliage on a lozenge-shaped panel on the bow, and scroll triggers (some wear and rust patination, engraving refreshed in places), indistinct London proof marks (2) 13 cm. barrels Footnotes: Literature David S.
