A Highland Dress Dirk By Meyer & Mortimer Of Edinburgh And London, Mid-19th Century With bright tapering blade (scattered light surface patination) notched and fullered along the back on each side and with false double-edge to the point, swelling wooden grip carved with basketweave set with brass pins, copper basal mount with retailer's stamp on one side, the other side engraved with crest and motto of the Murray family on a shield between sprigs of Scottish thistles and Union foliage, and pommel-cap with a pair of knurled lines and set with a piece of foiled glass (damaged), in original copper scabbard retaining traces of gilding, the outer side engraved with thistles and a repeated design of foliage, the locket with a drapier pattern of hatching and flower-heads, the by-knife and fork (faceted glass chipped) en suite with the dirk 31 cm. blade Footnotes: The crest is that of the Murray-Ansley family.
