A Handachi-Mounted Wakizashi Signed Kashu No Ju Fujiwara Kagehira, Early Edo Period The Shinto blade with one mekugi-ana, carved on one side with a dragon and ken horimono, and with a bonji on the other, signed on one side of the tang, and on the other with gold-inlaid cutting test inscription 'Hitotsu no do, futatsu do saidan butsu, Ogawa Hachirozaemon kore yo osameru' (cut through two and three bodies. Done by Hachirozaemon Ogawa), midare hamon, the unbound tsuka with silver fuchi and kabuto-gane decorated with stylized flower-heads and mon, and silver tsuba with roped rim, in its black ishimi lacquered saya with handachi mounts en suite with the tsuka, and complete with split kogai and associated silver kodzuka 38.5 cm. blade Footnotes: Tsujimura Shirouemon, known as Kagehira, was the eldest son of Jinroku, the founder of the Kashu Kanewaka School, and grandson of Tsujimura Yomonosuke.
