Two George III silver salvers John Swift, London 1761 Similar in design, shaped-circular, shell and scroll gadroon rim, both engraved with the same armorial engraving, one on spreading scroll feet, the other on open-work cast feet, underside with scratch numbers '23=0' and '24=8', diameter 27.7cm and 28.1cm, weight 47oz. (2) Footnotes: These are the arms of the BURRIDGE family of High Halden, Kent. The arms here are possibly owned by Revd. Benjamin BURRIDGE (1699-1780) the vicar of High Halden from 1759 until his death. He was a graduate of Magdalen Hall College, Oxford, where records show him to be the son of John BURRIDGE of Holborn, who appears to be a merchant and shipper. In 1728 Benjamin BURRIDGE married Mary FOWLE of Ebony, Kent and they had a son Benjamin BURRIDGE (born 1730) who was perhaps a latter potential owner of the item. It might be that the arms were granted to William BURRIDGE in 1801, a descendant of Benjamin BURRIDGE.
