LESLIE GORDON DURBIN: a good pair of silver toast racks London 1978 Each with five ribbed arches issuing from an oblong ribbed frame, central circular ribbed carrying handle, on four ball feet, height 10.3cm, length 13.2cm, weight 16.5oz. (2) Footnotes: LESLIE GORDON DURBIN MVO CBE (1913 - 2005) Born in Fulham in 1913, Leslie Gordon Durbin secured a London County Council Trade scholarship at the age of 13. He went on to study at the Central School of Arts & Crafts, and was later recommended by the Head of the Silversmithing Department to Omar Ramsden who took him on as an apprentice. One of Durbin's duties was to engrave the words 'OMAR RAMSDEN ME FECIT' on finished objects. In 1938 he won a Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths' scholarship for a full-time place at the Central School. At the outbreak of war Durbin was aged 26. He was not called up until 1941, and in 1943 he was given leave from the Royal Air Force to work on the Stalingrad Sword for which he was made an MVO. Buyers' Premium and Charges
For all Sales categories, buyer's premium excluding Cars, Motorbikes, Wine, Whisky and Coin & Medal sales, will be as follows:
Buyer's Premium Rates
28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price;
27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.
A 3rd party bidding platform fee of 4% of the Hammer Price for Buyers using the following bidding platforms will be added to the invoices of successful Buyers for auctions starting on or after 6th July 2024 – Invaluable; Live Auctioneers; The Saleroom; Lot-tissimo.
