A George IV silver three-piece tea service Paul Storr, London 1823 Compressed circular form, waisted collars, the part fluted slightly domed cover with flush hinge, the body with gadroon rim and part fluted lower body, handles with leafy and fluted junctions, on a spreading circular foot, sides with engraved crest and arm embowed in armour holding in the hand a battle axe all proper, the blade charged with a fleur de lis, the pot with ebonised wood handle and finial, the two-handled sugar bowl and cream jug with gilt interiors, length of pot 28cm, weight total 54.5oz. (3) Footnotes: The crest is likely to be associated with the arms of Thomas WADDINGTON (1773-1868) who was most likely born in the Haworth Vicarage, where his father was vicar. He married Janet Margaret (Anne) CHISHOLM (born 1780) who was earlier of Inverness. Thomas WADDINGTON was a British businessman who established himself as a cotton manufacturer in fil de Cie, France, with both he and his wife taking French citizenship. Notably his son William Henry WADDINGTON (1826-1894) who was born at Chateau Sant-Remy, Eure-et-Lois, France but later educated at Rugby in England.
