A George IV silver ewer Rebecca Emes & Edward Barnard, London 1827 Ovoid body with plain waisted neck, with applied cast fruiting vine rim and handle with bifurcated upper junction and leaf and berry lower junction, enclosing the body profusely chased with a band of fruiting vines over a stippled ground within a shell and 'C' scroll border, cast shield armorial within a cartouche to the front, mask below with a bunch of grapes, hinged dome cover with leaf embellishment, short ornate knopped stem on a spreading circular foot, height 29.5cm, weight 32.8oz. Footnotes: Arms possibly for Camden Gray MacLELLAN (1774-1832) 9th Lord Kirkcudbright the second son of John MacLELLAN (1767-1801) by Elizabeth BANNISTER (1747-1807). He succeeded his brother Shotto Henry MacLELLAN (1769-1827) 8th Lord Kirkcudbright. All members of the family were British army officers. In 1819, the then Honourable Camden Gray MacLELLAN had married Sarah Gorges THOMAS (1781-1863). The title has been dormant since the 9th Lord's death in 1832.
