Mellon'), a certificate for 500 shares in the Allegheny Valley Street Railway Company issued to Andrew Mellon, partially printed and accomplished in manuscript, 1 p, oblong 4to (200 x 275 mm), Pittsburgh, September 26, 1906, both items framed together to 940 x 585 mm. Provenance: Private Collection, Beverly Hills, California. This handsome later photograph of Mellon, perhaps dating from his years in the Harding-Coolidge-Hoover administrations, may be inscribed to either William Henry Thompson, a U.S. Senator from Nebraska, or William Howard Thompson, a U.S. Senator from Kansas. The Allegheny Valley Street Railway, led by Mellon's brothers Richard and William Mellon, was established in the mid-19th century to transport oil from the fields in Oil Creek and Titusville to refineries.
