AN ILLUSTRATION OF AN ELEPHANT ESCAPING A CIRCUS TRAIN. [ROJANKOVSKY, FEODOR, attrib. 1891-1970.] Ink and watercolor on paper, image of an elephant in a suit and tie escaping a circus train with his suitcase just as the train enters a tunnel, approximately 260 x 200 mm, matted and framed. Provenance: Every Picture Tells a Story, c.2004. This illustration appears to be the work of Fyodore Rojankovsky, a Russian emigre illustrator who worked for Little Golden Books. This illustration likely hails from Kathryn Jackson's 1949 book, The Big Elephant, in which an elephant escapes the circus and winds up playing in a marching band.
