A Thomas Haye brass Butterfield-type sundial, French, early 18th century, signed HAYE A PARIS, the octagonal dial engraved on the observe with landscape of a castle, river and bridge and on the revers with a portrait of a monk with inscription Fuge tace quiesce and list of twenty two towns and latitudes, dial with traces of original silvering, in green velvet lined fish skin covered case (hinge broken) dial close 8mm x 45mm x 59mm Footnotes: Provenance Tesseract, New York State July 1992 Thomas Haye was a member of the Founders' Corporation in Paris. In 1716 he published a work on dialling entitled Regle horaire universelle pour tracer des cadrans solaire sur toutes sortes de plans reguliers, declinans & inclinez.
