An enameled porcelain snuff bottle Iron-red four-character Daoguang sealmark to the base and of the period Of compressed form, flat lip on a straight neck, the oval foot rim unglazed, the body with famille rose enamels in as a continuous seascape with an island and a port town 2 1/2in (6.2cm) high Footnotes: 清道光 五彩山水圖鼻煙壺 《道光年製》款 Provenance Robert Kleiner, 30 March 2000 來源 Robert Kleiner, 2000年3月30日 The depiction here suggests the small islands, ports and forts which stand between Guangzhou and Whampoa Island on the pearl River. Whilst this scene is found in other media, particularly, oil paintings and watercolors produced for a primarily Western audience, it is seldom seen on porcelain snuff bottles. However, it is found on the works of the early Lingnan School of inside-painted snuff bottle artists like Gan Xuanwen, who worked between 1815 and 1823.
