A late 18th century French ormolu and marble mantel clock The dial signed Jubel, Paris The arched case surmounted by a foliate draped urn, the sides with overflowing cornucopias to either side of the dial, the panelled plinth base on four knurled toupie feet, the 4.5' Roman and Arabic enamel dial with elaborately pierced brass hands, the brass twin spring barrel movement with tic-tac escapement and shaped back plate with silk suspension and outside countwheel striking on a bell on the house and half hours, with winding key and two pocket watch keys for suspension regulation, 36cms high Footnotes: Provenance Purchased from Gregory & Co. of 27 Bruton Street, Berkeley Square, London. The clock was exhibited at the 1956 Antique Dealer's Fair and Exhibition, where it was purchased for £68. The receipt states that the clock was exhibited without the bezel. A replacement was later found and before it was collected, the clock was serviced by J. Kinner, of 78 Heath Street, Hampstead for £5..
