A pair of satinwood, purplewood, marquetry and parcel gilt breakfront low bookcases in the George III Neoclassical style Apparently adapted as a pair of bookcases from one larger piece of 19th century case furniture Each with a marble top above a flute inlaid frieze, over three brass grill inset doors enclosing two adjustable shelves, interspersed with four engaged reeded Corinthian columnar angles, with a berried foliate and flowerhead inlaid frieze below, on ring turned tapering toupie feet, restorations, each approximately: 142cm wide x 45cm deep x 103cm high, (55 1/2in wide x 17 1/2in deep x 40 1/2in high) (2) Footnotes: Provenance The offered pair of low bookcases were inherited by the present owner and vendor from his mother, after they had previously formed part of the furnishings of the latter's house in Chelsea Square. It is believed that they have been in the family for approximately 75 years or possibly more.
