MEEK'REN, JOB JANSZOON VAN. 1611-1666. Heel- en Geneeskonstige Aanmerkkingen. Amsterdam, Casparus Commelijn, 1668. 8vo (151 x95 mm). Numerous engraved illustrations in text. Contemporary vellum boards. Provenance: van der Hoeven (bookplate). FIRST EDITION. Chapter 1 contains the earliest description of the use of a bone graft from a dog to repair a defect on the skull of a soldier, which was successful but had to be removed by order of the church, as it violated canon law. A student of Nicolaas Tulp, van Meek'ren was a highly skilled surgeon who practiced exclusively in Amsterdam. Garrison-Morton-Norman 5735.
