H...g 1850' (on the bar of the trough, center left edge) oil on canvas 40.5 x 40.5 cm (16 x 16 in).framed 54.0 x 54.0 x 3.8 cm (21 1/4 x 21 1/4 x 1 1/2 in). Footnotes: N.B. The stretcher bears an impressed stamp 'W Morrill/Liner'. William Morrill (1838-1910), who followed his father George Morrill into the family art restoration business, was actively conserving works in London, including paintings at the National Gallery (c. 1865-1893) and the Dulwich Picture Collection (1870-1888), as well as the National Portrait Gallery. He was known for his structural work. His business is listed as William Morrill 1866-1899, and then William Morrill & Son 1899-1961.
