PRESENTATION COPY IN ORIGINAL WRAPPERS OF SAINT SIMON'S MOST IMPORTANT WORK, influencing thinkers from Mill to Marx, and from Veblen to Hayek. Often seen as a proto-socialist, Saint-Simon was actually a strong advocate for industrialization, and championed productive work led by the scientists and businessmen. Saint Simon, along with the Marquis de Lafayette, had joined the American Revolution, and fought alongside General Washington at Yorktown. Captured by the British, he was eventually returned to France where he became an engineer and an influential social philosopher.
