Avignon: n.p., 1756-1758-1760. 6 parts in 3 volumes. 4to (Vols 1 & 2: 252 x 186 mm; Vol 3: 260 x 192 mm). Engraved headpiece to A1r in volume 1. Custom cloth folding case. Provenance: Hon. Stanley C. Wisniewski (pencil inscription to each volume). FIRST EDITION OF ALL SIX PARTS OF MIRABEAU'S FOUNDATIONAL TREATISE OF PHYSIOCRATIC THOUGHT, and the first regular appearance of Quesnay's 'Tableau Économique' in part 6, which had been previously printed privately in 1758-1759. In response to the work, Quesnay set up a meeting with Mirabeau, and the conversation had a profound effect on Mirabeau's views. The fourth part, written in part by Quesnay, was published in 1758, and Mirabeau set out to popularize the newly emerging thought of Quesnay, including the wide publication of Quesnay's Tableau, possibly the first attempt to analytically assemble economic data. Goldsmith 9092; Kress 5543. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com For further information about this lot please visit the lot listing
