Trained as a mathematician and philosopher, Ramsey completed a translation of Wittgenstein's Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus as a 19 year-old at Cambridge, under the hand of his professor C.K. Ogden (of course, now commonly known as the 'Ogden translation'). In 1927, he turned to economics, and published that year this 'landmark in the economics of public finance' (Stiglitz, 'In Praise of...', Economics Journal, 2015.
