Introduced at the Frankfurt motor show in the fall of 1979, the W126 had been in development since its predecessor, the W116, entered production in 1972, showing the engineering team's dedication to building the finest sedan in the world. Bruno Sacco's styling team led a masterclass in timeless design, creating a car that was both understated and commanding. Offered in standard, long wheelbase, and coupe form, the W126 could be tailored to suit just about any whim, while a variety of six- and eight-cylinder petrol engines provided ample motivation. For the luxury car buyer with a frugal streak, five- and six-cylinder diesel engines were also offered. In keeping with S-Class tradition, the car oozed quality from every surface. Every function and feature of the W126 was carefully considered and engineered for precise, reliable operation, earning the S-Class countless accolades from the press and public alike throughout its lengthy production run. As with others in the Barry Taylor Collection, this car is dressed in rare and desirable AMG bits, including a full body kit and color-keyed Penta alloys. The car is in generally good order, showing 96,259 miles at the time of cataloguing and is reported to have received a replacement engine approximately 6,000 miles ago, although documentation is limited. This S-Class shows some signs of wear from long-term storage, and tears in the fabric upholstery are noted. While in Bonhams' care, it has not been run, and will require recommissioning prior to enjoyment. Buyers Premium and Charges
The final bid (hammer) price of each lot will be
subject to a buyer's premium.
For MOTORCAR property the premium is 15% of the final bid price.
For MOTORCYCLE property the premium is 15% on the first $100,000 of the bid price and 10% on any amount of the bid price exceeding $100,000.
For AUTOMOBILIA or non motor vehicle property, the premium is 28% of the first $50,000 of the bid price, plus 27% of the amount of the bid price above $50,000 up to and including $1,000,000, plus 21% of the amount of the bid price above $1,000,000 up to and including $6,000,000, plus 14.5% of the amount of the bid price above $6,000,000.
