'U.STATES' Surcharged American Dragoon Pistol, c 1777-85. 8 in., .72 caliber round likely French barrel with traces of markings at the breech; replacement lock with flat plate with stepped and pointed tail; walnut stock with flat panels on the grip, the right side with U.STATES' surcharge brand; brass furniture including a French trigger guard with pointed finial, convex elongated side plate and sheet brass rammer entry pipe, wood rammer. Overall lg. 14 1/4 in. Condition: Barrel toned to mottled gray/brown with moderate pitting toward the muzzle; reproduction lock and side nails; stock has scattered dings and dents; brass toned to yellow.
