Pair of Brass Barrel Flintlock Pistols, likely James Barber I, London, England, mid-18th century. 9 1/4 in., .62 caliber octagon to round brass barrels with flaring muzzle, top of the breech marked 'BARBER LONDON,' the left side with London proof marks and Barber's mark; flat brass lock plates with stepped and pointed tail and foliate scroll engraving, marked 'BARBER' below the pan; walnut stock with raised plateau at tail of lock and side plate, silver wire inlay around the breech plug tang; silver furniture including trigger guard with panoply of arms finial, butt cap with grotesque mask base and long straps, panoply of arms thumb piece and panoply of arms side plate, rammer pipes with wood rammer. Overall lg. 15 1/8 in. Condition: One of the pair has repaired breaks to the wrist, approx. 1 1/2 in. of restoration to the fore end and a repaired cock; the other has a repaired break to the wrist, actions function properly.
