Sharps Model 1853 Sporting Rifle, Hartford, Connecticut, 1854-59. Serial number 16370, 60 bore (.427 caliber) round barrel with blade front sight and notch rear sight, top of barrel marked 'SHARP'S RIFLE/MANUFG. CO./HARTFORD, CONN.'; receiver with percussion ignition, the lock plate marked 'SHARP'S/PATENT/1852' and tang marked 'SHARPS/PATENT/1848'; walnut stock with brass butt plate and patch box, the inside of the patch box lid with matching serial number, the fore end with pewter nose cap. Barrel lg. 27, overall lg. 44 in. Condition: Metal re-blued, stock has scattered dings an dents, fore end has a tight hairline near the lever, an a small area of wood fill on the right side just behind the nose cap, bore is pitted but rifling is visible the entire length of the bore, action functions properly.
