German Matchlock Musket, mid-17th century. 42 3/4 in., .80 caliber octagon to round barrel with an illegible oval cartouche at the top of the breech, ring transition 10 1/2 in. from the breech, iron blade front sight; rectangular lock plate with rounded ends, serpentine and pivoting pan cover; beech stock with convex belly to the butt, sheet iron trigger guard, later barrel retaining bands and rammer. Overall lg. 57 3/4 in. Condition: Metal remains mostly bright with scattered spots of gray toning and related pitting; stock has worm holes, loss along the right side of the barrel channel and a hole just below the rammer entry area. Footnotes: Provenance Included with the musket is a handwritten note from Joe Kindig, Jr. giving the provenance of the musket stating that it was acquired from the collection of H.I & R.H.
