Fine Matched Pair of German Jeager Rifles, third quarter of the 18th century. 24 1/8 in., .69 caliber rifled octagonal barrels with silver blade front sights and blued steel rear sights, the top of the barrels with inlaid inscription 'CZERMAK' and the breech plug tangs engraved '1' and '2' respectively; convex lock plate with double line border engraving and pointed tails, engraved 'C.HAMPEL./A:LUDWICS/BURG'; walnut stocks with raised carving around the lock mortice and side plate, foliate scroll relief carving around the breech plug tang and left side of the butt and caving along the barrel and rammer channels, padded velvet cheek pads on the left side of the butts, sliding wood patch boxes, the inner surface with German inscription that translates to 'Adjustment fired at 100 steps by myself'; wood trigger guards with brass finial, brass butt plate with long tang; flat brass side plate, faceted brass rammer and entry pipes: horn nose cap; wood rammer with horn tip and long iron ferule end. Overall lg. 38 3/4 in. Condition: Barrels and locks are bright; stocks have minor dings and dents, the spur of one trigger guard restored; brass toned to yellow; locks function properly.
