1758 Carved Powder Horn with the Arms of the Prevost Family. The arm consisting of an arm with hand grasping a sword below two stars within a frame flanked by two lions, the horn carved all over with a map of the upper Hudson River, Lake George and Lake Champlain region of northern New York depicting stylized views of Fort Edward, Fort George, Fort Carillon showing the French lines and camps, and Crown Point; ring-carved spout, slightly convex pine base with lightly carved initials 'AP' secured with brass tacks. Overall lg. 12 1/2 in. Footnotes: Note While not certain, it is possible that this powder horn belonged to Augustin Prevost (1723-86). Prevost served as a major in the British 60th Regiment of Foot arriving in North America in January 1756. He was wounded at the siege of Quebec in July 1759.
