A Samuel Fuller Script of The Dark Page, Howard Hawks' Copy Mimeographed Manuscript, 'The Dark Page' by Samuel Fuller, 165 pp, 4to, n.p., February 14, 1946, bound in brads with plan red wrappers featuring a Howard Hawks address label to upper cover, light toning to papers, chip to Hawks label, library label to upper cover. Ultimately released as the 1952 film, Scandal Sheet, this novel by Samuel Fuller was originally optioned in 1944 by Howard Hawks when Fuller was in the war. Hawks aimed for a film starring Humphrey Bogart and Cary Grant; one can only imagine the unique screen team they would have made. The story takes place in 1930s New York City and centers around a murder committed by a newspaper editor whose favorite reporter is investigating. Hawks described the tale as a figurative 'love story between two men' in the newspaper world, and after trying to find just the right actors for the roles (even considering the casting of unknowns at one point), he sold the rights to the story for $100,000 (after initially buying it from Fuller for a mere $15,000). 8.5 x 11 in.
