A Meta Carpenter Rebner Wilde Script of Medium Cool Paramount Pictures, 1969. Mimeograph Manuscript with Annotations, 'Concrete Wilderness' (retitled by Rebner 'Medium Cool' at upper margin), 97 pp plus 7 additional scheduling pages, 4to, n.p., [1969], bound with brads (lacking wrappers, heavily annotated throughout and with a few small photographs of actors laid down at end, pages creased, thumbed and soiled.) Director, writer, producer, and cinematographer Haskell Wexler presented this groundbreaking film which takes place in Chicago during the 1968 Democratic Convention and ensuing riots. Using both documentary footage and Wexler's cameras, this cinéma vérité style creates a unique film which is even more relevant today than it was when initially released. The plot focuses on an apolitical cameraman (played by Robert Forster) who begins a relationship with a woman and her young son while at the same time becoming disillusioned with the manipulation behind the media and his place in it. The film was initially given an 'X' rating because of a nude scene, but that was felt by many to be a decision based on the film's political and controversial themes and not the actual nudity. In 1970, it was changed to an 'R' rating. Credited as Meta Rebner, Meta Carpenter Rebner Wilde was the script supervisor on this film which Newsweek magazine claimed was 'an exciting piece of work that must be seen by anyone who cares about the development of modern movies.' 8.5 x 11 in.
