A Group of Three Costume Sketches for Angela Lansbury Designed by Edith Head for The Court Jester Paramount, 1956. Designed by Edith Head. Gouache and ink on illustration board, one signed by Edith Head and one initialed by her. Angela Lansbury is a princess who falls for Danny Kaye in this colorful romp which highlights Kaye's penchant for tongue twisters and physical comedy. Lansbury wears the white and gold costume in a hilarious scene where Kaye is knighted. Though Lansbury does not wear the blue costume in the film, it was created, and she can be seen wearing it in publicity portraits and on-the-set photos (in the film, she wears another gown similar in design and color). Bonhams sold the gown from the sketch in its June 2020 Entertainment Memorabilia auction. She wears the decadent forest green velvet cape in the jousting scene where knight Danny Kaye and his rival are both trying to remember wherein lies the pellet with the poison.
