An Audrey Hepburn Autograph Letter Signed to a Childhood Friend, 1989 Autograph Letter Signed ('Audrey'), 4 pp, 8vo, Tolochenaz, Switzerland, June 1, 1989, to Anna Fisk, on blue stationery printed with Tolochenaz address, with original transmittal envelope. Audrey Hepburn was known for her acting talent, her philanthropy, and for being a good friend. A testament to the latter is her lifelong friendship with Anna Boissevain Fisk, with whom she shared happy childhood experiences in the Netherlands. The two participated in a lifelong correspondence, and in this communication, Hepburn waxes nostalgic and reminisces about the many wonderful times she and Nan (or Nanpan, as she often called her) had together. Indeed, the Boissevain family provided great comfort to the young Audrey, who felt nurtured by 'how warm and kind' they were in a house that was filled with laughter and joy, something she did not experience with her own family: 'What would I have done without you – my childhood would have been a lot sadder ... with the stiffness at home.' At the end of her letter, in which she regales her friend with several fun memories and expresses deep love and appreciation for her, Hepburn writes of her happiness with Robert Wolders, with whom she had been in a decade-long relationship at that time (it would continue until her death in 1993). She gives up-to-date information on her sons, and conveys her gratitude: 'I am blessed.' 6 x 8 in.
