Two Armorial Porcelain Plates with Opaque White Enamel Decoration, Jingdezhen, China, c. 1740-70. The 9-inch circular plate having splayed rim decorated with flower and fruit branches in famille rose enamels alternating with opaque white orchid motifs to center an unidentified crest, possibly MASTERS of Edwon, Shropshire, Out of a ducal coronet a rooster's head between two wings, holding a sprig in the beak, the cavetto with spearhead and dot border surrounding a shallow well filled with blue-enameled and incised floral spray decoration; together with a lobed octagonal plate having rim and cavetto wreathed with floral vines in colored enamels, containing three opaque white floral sprays and broken to center a shield bearing the arms of DACRE, Gules three escallops argent impaling WELDON, Argent a cinquefoil gules on a chief of the second a demi lion rampant or below the Dacre crest, A bull passant, flanked by floral sprays and above a plain banner, (octagonal plate) diam. 9 1/2, ht. 7/8 in.
