Large Sea Chest with Mahogany Tray Insert, late 19th century. Pine shipping trunk with rope handles threaded through carved hardwood cleats attached to sides, the splined multi-board top nailed over a dovetailed frame to form recessed lid, opening on three hinges over a deep well with dovetailed walls, thin rails nailed to interior ends to support a shallow dovetailed mahogany tray with kidney-shaped handles cut out of the arched ends and fitted with two-part covered tills flanking an open central compartment, retaining original Chubb's Patent and VR Safety Locks, 119cm wide, 58cm deep, 76cm high (47in wide, 23 3/4in deep, 30 3/4in high).
