Three-Inch Terrestrial Globe in Original Display Box, Joseph Schedler (1813-87), Hudson City, New Jersey, c. 1868. The weighted, molded paste-board globe labeled 'J. Schedler's. / Terrestrial / Globe / 3 inches Diam'r / Prize Medal, Paris Exp. / 1867 / Patented November 24th 1868,' the latter probably referring to the 'Improvement in the Construction of School-Globes' patented by Edward Weissenborn of Hudson City (U.S. pat. no. 84,398), together with an embossed paperboard case retaining cover printed with similar text, erroneously identifying Schedler's bronze medal-winning globe as a 'First Prize' winner at the 1867 Paris Exposition, centering a turned wooden knob or pedestal on which the globe easily balances, (case) diam. 3 1/4, ht. 3 1/2 in.
